August 21, 2007 - Massey University Internship Program - Massey has announced a new communication internship course available to study abroad students This internship is a full time course and is available in either the February or July semesters at the Wellington and Palmerston North campuses. Students will need to have successfully completed a junior-year communications class in the USA (or equivalent) to be eligible. This internship is at no additional cost to study abroad students. July 18, 2007 - New Incentive Program for Early Applicants - As a special incentive for Spring 2008 applicants, we are offering a $100 voucher towards a variety of adventure activities while in Australia/New Zealand should you complete your application, submit your $30 application fee, and submit your official transcripts by August 15, 2007. You must register for this special offer by August 15, 2007 to qualify.

November 12, 2006 - Annoucing New Orientation Program in New Zealand - Study Australia is excited to announce a new customized orientation program exclusively for our New Zealand participants. This five-day orientation allows students to explore the North Island while getting acclimated to their new surroundings. We'll experience the heart-racing activities that Kiwis are known for and explore the natural wonders the country has to offer. October 17, 2006 - Technology Package Now Included - Beginning with the Spring 2007 semester, all Study Australia Premier Housing in Sydney, Brisbane, Wollongong, Gold Coast and Melbourne now includes high-speed internet and local landline phone service. This is just another way Study Australia is meeting the needs of our program participants.

If Study Australia Premier Housing is not available at a program location, we will offer advice on the most affordable and best ways to connect to the Internet.

September 5, 2006 - Take Off to Thailand - Australia’s location in the South Pacific makes it an excellent launch pad to explore other parts of the region. Study Australia has organized an unique opportunity with an alternative spring break to Thailand. This Study Australia exclusive 9-day excursion explores both the northern and southern regions of Thailand with a focus on the culture and traditions of the country. Thailand is a politically stable Buddhist country located in South East Asia. It is known throughout the world for its delectable cuisine and friendly people. From the palm tree-lined beaches in the south to the tropical rainforests in the north, Thailand offers an amazing cultural adventure. Students will engage with a hill tribe village spending a night in the village, riding elephants through the jungle and rafting down a river on a bamboo raft. Students will take a thai cooking lesson, attend a dance ceremony, and visit traditional markets. There will also be plenty of time to relax on one of the beautiful southern islands.

July 16, 2006 - Summer Program for Engineering Studients - Engineering students can now participate on a summer study abroad program designed specifically for them. Energy Tomorrow: and Engineering and Management Perspective is a six-week traveling program led by University of New South Wales (UNSW) faculty that explores energy and sustainability, with a focus on new developments in energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies. On this program students travel to Darwin and the Top End, Sydney, the Outback and Uluru, and Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef. Visit here for more information about this program.

April 20, 2006 - Announcing Contemporary Public Health Summer Program - Study Australia has teamed up with Purdue University to offer students a unique look at the issues of international public health. This three-week program travels to Sydney, Brisbane, and the Outback to discover the challenges facing health care providers in this vast country. Visit here for more information.

January 18, 2006 - Annoucing Fall 2006 Pre-semester Trips - Students participating on Fall 2006 semester programs can now participate on one of two travel opportunities.

  • Students attending Bond University for the September 2006 term can now join Study Australia on an optional 4-day Fiji Island Adventure en route to Australia August 26 - 30, 2006. Students will experience the culture, explore the tropical rainforests, and soak up the sun on white and black sand beaches.
  • Other Fall 2006 participants can join Study Australia on an optional tour of the Great Barrier Reef and Tropical North Queensland July 9 - 16, 2006. After Study Australia's 5-day orientation in Sydney, head up the coast to experience the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef, explore the tropical rainforests and native wildlife, participate in extreme activities such as white water rafting and bungy jumping, and soak up the Australian sun. Then students will journey to their host universities to begin their studies.

Complete trip details will be available in March. Both trips are open to semester participants only.

Our Spring Semester participants can participate on three additional pre-semester trips.

  • New Zealand – Students travel through the South Island of New Zealand and enjoy some of the most magnificent natural surroundings this planet has to offer! From the Southern Hemisphere’s largest bungee, to mountain biking, jet boating through ravines, white water rafting the raging rivers, and hiking glaciers, you won’t be disappointed, or bored!
  • Learn to Surf - Surf through a 6-day trip from Sydney to Byron Bay stopping at some of the most pristine beaches in Australia. From beginners to advanced, participants will have the opportunity to explore some of the best uncrowded waves the North Coast has to offer.
  • Extreme Cairns - Situated on the Great Barrier Reef, Cairns is where the reef meets the rainforest. Tackle the raging rapids of the Tully River, snorkel the Outer Great Barrier Reef, participate in a night bungee jumping techno party, soak up some sun on the many beaches, and explore the Daintree Rainforest, home to prehistoric flora and fauna.

October 24, 2005 - Sydney Ranked #1 in US Poll - Sydney has come out on top at the annual US Conde Nast Traveller Readers' Choice Awards, being voted number one city in the Pacific Rim region and scoring the highest points of any city around world. The annual poll of 28,000 readers analyses the travel preferences of the magazine's North American readership in various categories including cities, islands, airlines, cruise lines, hotels, spas, resorts and rental cars. Complete results will be published in the November 2005 issue.

June 5, 2005 - Study Australia Annouces New DVD - Study Australia is pleased to present its first promotional DVD, which was filmed during study abroad student orientation in Sydney, Australia, in February of 2005. The DVD features the sites and sounds of Sydney and the Blue Mountains, footage of the orientation activities, and interviews with spring 2005 participants. April 20, 2005 - Study Australia forms partnership James Cook University - Beginning in the Spring Semester of 2006 Study Australia participants will be able to attend James Cook University. With campuses in Cairns and Townsville in northern Queensland, James Cook offers a tropical campus setting with unique course offerings that explore the natural wonders of the region.

February 2, 2005 - New Zealand Resident Director joins Study Australia - Alex Hannant has joined the Study Australia staff to serve as the resident director for New Zealand. Originally from the UK, Alex arrived in New Zealand during November 1999 after spending time in Fiji. Now a New Zealand citizen, Alex has worked for Victoria University International from early 2000 and was an instrumental part of a team that has grown the international program at Victroria University of Wellington from 500 students to 2500 over a 5-year period. During this time Alex has traveled extensively and developed considerable experience in cross cultural environments. Victoria is now widely recognized as having one of the leading international programs in New Zealand. Alex resigned his position at Victoria International at the beginning of 2005 to study a Master of Developmental Studies at Victoria University of Wellington. Outside work, Alex's main interests lie in friends, soccer, reading, and travel.

August 8, 2004 - Study Australia partners with new university- Study Australia has teamed up with the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) to offer students yet another educational alternative in the greater Sydney area. UTS has a reputation for academic excellence and a spectacular location within the city center.

October 5, 2002 - Australian Cities considered 'Most Livable' – In a survey of 130 cities, the London-based Economist Intelligence Unit rated five Australian cities as 10 of the Most Livable Cities in the World. Melbourne and Vancouver, Canada were cited as the best cities in the world, with Perth ranked third and Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide tied in eighth place.

September 20, 2002 - Australia voted best country in the world – Once again, Australia has been voted best country in the world by readers of Conde Nast Traveller by scoring above 85% in all 10 categories. In addition, Sydney was tied for first (with NYC) for best overseas city.

May 22, 2002 - Partnership with University of Notre Dame Australia – Study Australia, LLC and the University of Notre Dame Australia (NDA) entered into an exclusive partnership whereby Study Australia LLC, will work with the university to develop new United States based marketing initiatives.

Vice chancellor of Notre Dame Dr Peter Tannock said the new partnership made "excellent strategic sense" and would enhance the service offered to study abroad students.

"Both directors of Study Australia, Sean Lennon and Chris Shepherd, studied at Notre Dame Australia and have an excellent understanding of our advantages and requirements. In addition, the Company has an office in Perth which will ensure that participating students receive true on-the-ground support," Dr Tannock said.
