Health Insurance

Study Australia participants receive an overseas health insurance policy included in the cost of the program. These basic medical and health insurance policies, or Overseas Student Health Coverage (OSHC), fulfill the mandatory insurance required by the government for international students in Australia and New Zealand. Both countries have excellent medical and health system available to international students. Study Australia participants are also provided with Evacuation and Repatriation Insurance.

Australia Insurance Information

The Australian government required Overseas Student Health Coverage (OSHC) can be administered by WorldCare, Medibank Private, BUPA and AHM, as all are government insurance providers.

  • The cost for OSHC is included in the Study Australia program fee.
  • OSHC provides free or discounted access to the University Health Service and to public hospitals.
  • Enrollment in OSHC is finalized during your university orientation program at which time you will receive a membership card and detailed instructions on how to use your OSHC plan.
  • Dental Care and Optical Care are NOT covered by OSHC so schedule any necessary examinations before you depart as they are considerably more expensive in Australia.

There are some limitations to OSHC. If you have any existing health concerns, contact your current insurance provider before you leave for Australia. Higher-level coverage, such as access to private hospitals and dental services, is also not included in OSHC. Medical insurance for higher level medical needs is your own responsibility.
